Causes and countermeasures of water intrusion in diesel generator sets

The internal parts of the diesel generator set have the characteristics of high precision and high coordination, which is the prerequisite for being able to provide us with effective power for a long time. Under normal circumstances, electrical equipment is prohibited from being exposed to rain. Once water enters the unit, it will usually cause damage to the diesel generator, which may reduce the service life, or may directly lead to the scrapping of the entire machine.   1. The cylinder gasket of the unit is damaged, and the water in the water channel in the cylinder enters the unit.

 

  1. Water entered the equipment room, causing the diesel generator set to be soaked in water.

 

  1. The water seal of the water pump of the unit is damaged, causing water to enter the oil passage.

 

  1. There are loopholes in the protection of the diesel generator set, causing water to enter the engine block from the smoke pipe on rainy days or other reasons.

 

  1. The water blocking ring of the wet cylinder liner is damaged. In addition, the water level of the radiator in the water tank is high and there is a certain pressure. All water will penetrate into the oil circuit along the outer wall of the cylinder liner.

  1. Correct response measures after water intrusion of diesel generator set

In the first step, if water is found in the diesel generator set, the unit in the shutdown state should not be started.

 

The running unit should be shut down immediately.

 

In the second step, raise one side of the diesel generator set with a hard object so that the oil drain part of the generator oil pan is in a low position. Unscrew the oil drain plug and pull out the oil dipstick to allow the water in the oil pan to flow out on its own.

 

The third step is to remove the air filter from the diesel generator set, replace it with a new filter element and soak it in oil.

 

The fourth step is to remove the intake and exhaust pipes and muffler, and remove the water in the pipes. Turn on the decompression, crank the diesel engine to generate electricity, and observe whether there is water discharged from the inlet and exhaust ports. If there is water discharged, continue to crank the crankshaft until all the water in the cylinder is discharged. Install the front and exhaust pipes and mufflers, add a small amount of engine oil to the air inlet, crank the crankshaft a few times, and then install the air filter.

 

The fifth step is to remove the fuel tank, drain all the oil and water in it, check whether there is water in the fuel system and drain it cleanly.

The sixth step is to release the sewage in the water tank and water channels, clean the water channels, and add clean river water or boiled well water until the water float rises. Turn on the throttle switch and start the diesel engine. After starting the diesel engine, pay attention to the rise of the engine oil indicator and listen for any abnormal noises from the diesel engine.

 

The seven step is After checking whether all parts are normal, run the diesel engine in. The running sequence is first idle, then medium speed, and then high speed. The working time is 5 minutes each. After running in, stop the engine and drain the engine oil. Add new engine oil again, start the diesel engine, and operate it at medium speed for 5 minutes before normal use.

 

The eight step is Disassemble the generator, check the stator and rotor inside the generator, and then dry them before assembling them.
